  • Description

Willie Dunn Senior Baffing spoon replica c.1870 hand-made by Golf Classics.

This is a faithful full-size replica Baffing spoon c.1870 with a leather face insert. The leather insert was commonly added to protect the club face from damage when using the gutty ball.  This was the shortest and most lofted wooden club, used for short shorts to clear obstacles and hazards. The ball was 'baffed', that is, the ground was struck just behind the ball, the club head bouncing off the ground before hitting and lifting the ball into the air.

The Dunn family clubmaking business began with the twin brothers Jamie (1821-71) and Willie (1821-70) in Musselburgh, Scotland. Both boys were apprenticed to the Gourlays, well-known feather ball makers at Bruntsfield.

Both Jamie and Willie were great golfers and made extra income from playing challenge matches for money.

Willie Dunn went on to become 'Keeper of the Green' at Blackheath, London and later at Leith Thistle Club, Edinburgh before setting up his own clubmaking business in Musselbugh.

Length: 41.5"

Full-size Robert Forgan, St. Andrews replica Drivers, Spoons and Putters also available on request.
