Made by A.G. Spalding & Brothers (USA, London, and Dysart, Scotland) for retail by James Adwick, the professional at Olton Golf Club, Solihull, England (1914-1932).
Founded in 1878 at Rockford, Illinois, USA, this sporting goods company first began importing golf clubs into the United States, from Scotland in around 1893. The company later produced its own golf equipment from factories in London, and Dysart in Fife, Scotland. Spalding & Brothers were the first manufacturer to introduce drop-forging into England, and these irons were stamped with the ‘Hammer’ brand. Early wooden clubs made by the firm were either stamped simply with the company name, or the ‘Baseball’ trademark, a reference to their American sporting goods heritage.
