F.E. Goldsmith Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club. Putting Cleek c.1914

- Description
Shaft: Original shaft with slight bow, typical for putters of the hickory era. Vintage leather 14" grip.
Loft: 13 degrees
Length: 32.75"
Condition: Very good for age. Clear J.P. Cochrane & Co. makers' 'Bowline knot' cleek mark, and 'F.E. Goldsmith Golf Club Maker Minehead' oval stamp.
Other details: A lined face Putting Cleek made by J.P. Cochrane and retailed by F.E. Goldsmith, the professional and clubmaker at Minehead Golf Club from 1905-1919. The putting cleek has a shallow-face and long head, with less loft than a cleek, but more than an ordinary putter. The extra loft was useful for 'chipping' a shot from longer grass just off the green, as well as imparting a little backspin on the ball so it pulled up quickly, allowing short putts to be hit more firmly without going too far past the hole.
