Lowestoft Golf Club was founded in 1887 and was originally a nine hole course at The Denes. The club moved in 1906 to nearby Pakefield and the new nine hole course was laid out by James Braid. In 1924 the club managed to purchase some adjoining land, and James Braid's services were called upon again to add a further nine holes to become a full 18 hole course. In 1975 the club moved again, and renamed itself to become Rookery Park Golf Club.
