Shaft: Original hickory shaft with calf-skin leather grip. Shaft is straight, and firmly fitted to head with no splits or cracks visible.

Length: 40.25"

Condition: Good condition for age. The 'Outline Star' makers' stamp for William Gibson & Co., Kinghorn, Scotland clearly visible. The oval name stamp for 'Harry Hunter, Deal' is worn but partly discernable.

Other details:  Cleek with diamond and punch marked face. Original calf skin leather grip intact but fragile and tatty in places, Grip is wrapped over thick underlisting.

Henry McGregor Hunter was born in Edinburgh in 1860. He moved to Sandwich, Kent as an assistant to his brother, Ramsey, who was the greenkeeper at The Royal St. George's Club. In 1889 Harry moved to take the post of professional at Ashdown Forest Golf Club before moving on to the Royal Cinque Ports club as their first greenkeeper in early 1892. With the assistance of his brother, Harry was responsible for much of the design and construction of the 9 hole course. He was a loyal servant to the club for the next 43 years.
