Shaft: Original, stamped, and straight shaft, with vintage grip.  No visible splits or cracks. Swing weight C-6.

Loft: 8 degrees

Condition: Very good, with light stained persimmon head, and clear 'Autograph' name stamp.

A few minor scratches and dents, as can be seen from photos, but no visible signs of cracks or splits.

The firm of Cann & Taylor, was the successful partnership of two Devon school boy friends, George Cann, and John Henry (‘JH’) Taylor. Cann was the first apprentice to Charles Gibson, the Scottish professional clubmaker at the Royal North Devon Golf Club, Westward Ho!, and Taylor was the gifted young golfer and caddie, who went on to win five British Open Championships (1894, 1895, 1900, 1909 & 1913). The two started their club making business in 1894, after ‘JH’ became the professional at Winchester Golf Club. The business was so successful, they set up a factory in the United States, when America was still importing the majority of its golf equipment from Great Britain. Trading on Taylor’s success as a player, the firm sold their own branded ‘Autograph’ series of clubs, with J. H. Taylor’s signature stamped on the back, which were popular for over thirty years.
