Other details: Born in 1887, Charles Rodwell opened his first golf retail shop in London in 1904, aged only 17. He was a obviously a shrewd businessman, as he eventually went on to own four more shops in the London area. Charles saw an opportunity to expand the business in 1907 when he purchased the club and ball making machinery from the bankrupt Butchart Golf Company. He also acquired the assets of Hemmings Golf when that company disolved in 1909. A sign of how well his business was doing, is the fact that he personally travelled to the United States in 1908 to purchase and secure the supply of hickory for his own brand of clubs.
