Club: Rare James Kinnell Hosel-blade Putter
Maker: Tom Stewart, St. Andrews, Scotland
Year: c.1905-1910
Shaft: Original straight hickory shaft. The putter head was loose, so has been reset with replacement metal pin fitted. Vintage suede 13" grip.
Length: 34.5"
Condition: Good for age. Tom Stewart 'Pipe' cleek makers' stamp is clear, but 'James Kinnell, South Croydon' oval stamp is worn and partly visible.
Other details: Patented in 1903 by James Kinnell, this design of bent hosel-blade putter are now referred to as 'Kinnell' pattern and were made with a number of different shaped blades. This model has a shallow 7/8" face, with a trapeziod shape head, and wide 3/4" sole.
This putter was retailed by James Kinnell himself whilst professional and clubmaker to Purley Downs Golf Club, South Croydon, London (1905-1914).
