The St. Andrews foundry of Thomas Stewart is probably the most famous of all the Scottish iron clubmakers, and his iron heads are easily distinguished by the company's Clay Pipe cleek mark, first used in 1893. Stewart's reputation for high quality earned him the respect of his peers, and an association with the greatest players of his day. His company produced iron heads for many Championship players, including Tom Morris, Harry Vardon and Robert T. Jones, as well as making iron heads for other club making firms, such as Robert Forgan and D. & W. Auchterlonie of St. Andrews, and the McEwans of Musselburgh.
